The pain escalation algorithm provides a clinical pathway to ensure a responsive action to the
experience of pain and address pain and distress to optimize comfort for patients while in hospital. This algorithm applies to any healthcare professional (HCP) or person/family/supporter/caregiver in any clinical area or situation, where pain or distress may be a factor affecting care delivery. It was specifically written for BC Children’s Hospital.
